Rolls 4-7 Aug 2020

I am proud that I have more or less kept up my pace, making a conscious effort to pick up the camera every day. Most days success is very limited but occasionally, there is a breakthrough. These have mostly been happening with portraits where the environment is much more controlled and a bit more opportunity to creatively explore and push boundaries. I guess risk often results in reward.

The last week or so was a bit of everything. Some landscapes

- I went out with the son of a friend who is exploring film, photography and film making - some street,

and some portraits, including an epic fail on the self portrait front, though the resulting image is kind of hilarious. At least I can laugh about it.

On the creative side, I have been reading, watching and effectively studying everything Sally Mann. Her work is creatively stunning, moody and soulful. Lastly, her process (wet plate, ortho paper etc) creates these sort of magical happy accidents which give her work a unique sort of ghostlike quality which is super interesting for me and has been part of some of my favourite images I have made from the past few months, including this one from roll 7:

All of this review has led me to a path where I am embarking on a project with a high potential for failure. I won’t say more yet, but I will share more in the future, in all transparency, even in likely failure.

The month has been shaping up positively. I sold a few more prints, it is sounding like there may be another magazine (online) feature (working through the details), and lastly more collaboration with Josh (https://jtinseoul.com/) as I continue to work with him in a sort of managerial capacity to assist with his growth of his various creative assets. Most of all, I am having fun making pictures, which I think is the most important thing.
